What's in a Name?

To some, sports are life.  To many, sports are a great metaphor and learning place for life.  This is nothing new, a couple thousand years ago, a Roman named Paul wrote in a letter to colleagues in Corinth: "You've all been to the stadium and seen the athletes race. Everyone runs; one wins. Run to win. All good athletes train hard. They do it for a gold medal that tarnishes and fades. You're after one that's gold eternally."  [from The Message by Eugene Peterson]

All sports require: discipline; drills; muscle toning/learning - so don't have to think just react.  You need experience in applying drills to real situations - knowing what to do so well that when you are in an intense situation part of you is in autopilot.    You must see beyond the current action/reaction.  You must be aware of the system - what's going on all around.   You need to learn to communicate with all teammates.   All of this takes time to soak in, time to make such skills your own.  What a great metaphor for life!

In the world's sport - soccer, one practices drills for specific plays; however, during most of a game the players are on their own applying what they know to new situations as they develop.  Typically, in a 90 minute game, less than 7 minutes are spent executing fixed plays.  The majority of the time of play is called "free play".  During this time, players must transform drills and fundamental knowledge of the game to successful execution with the team.  In the business world, we must do the same.  Rarely do all events go in a nice preplanned manner.  We have to apply what we know to new and often unforeseen situations - quite like soccer.

We, at FreePlay Inc. create and implement innovative systems to put efficiency in to practice.  We are catalysts to help make the transition; creating tools/systems to accelerate improving processes; outfitting you with tools for your journey; aiding you in the work, adventure, challenge; identifying what fundamental shifts in thinking allow one to choose to think/act significantly more effectively.
